Former Accra Hearts of Oak defender Joe Addo has suggested that the club needs consistency to be able to return to its old glory days.

The Phobians have ghosted off the bug stage in recent past after dominating Ghana and African football in the early 2000’s.

Hearts of Oak beat Tunisian giants Esperance to win the CAF Champions League in 2000, while also edging bitterest rivals Asante Kotoko to clinch the maiden edition of the CAF Confederation Cup 4 years later. In between, they won the CAF Super Cup as well.

From 2000-2010, the club asserted their superiority on the domestic front by winning 6 league titles.
However, their purple patch has dried up as they have now gone on a trophy drought for more than ten years.

Along this dry spell, there have been major investments into the club by majority shareholder Togbe Afede XIV. But Joe Addo who served for two years as the Club’s International Relations Manager believes their biggest problem is inconsistency.

Joe Addo opines that the sporadic nature of how managers and players are changed has affected their chances of realizing set objectives and he is very confident that only a moment of stability is needed for Hearts to start winning again.

He told Joy Sports, “the main thing that we lack is consistency, that’s the main thing. If we stick with one person and give him the freedom to run the club or let him coach the club. I think we will go somewhere”.

“But when we start changing our objectives and our directions every now and then, we are disjointed, it makes it very difficult to go the straight line, he noted”.
