Former King Faisal playmaker Ben Wilson, has shared his regret at not taking his education serious as he believes, he would have made great strides in his career if he had.
Wilson was a prominent figure in King Faisal’s glory days in the Ghana Premier league in the early 2000’s.
As a one club player, Wilson who qualifies for a legendary status at the Kumasi based outfit enjoyed a career in the local terrain spanning over 15 years.
He shot to the scene after excelling at Secondary School level with the famous Paa Kwesi Fabin led OKESS boys football team which also produced talents like Sulley Muntari.
Ben Wilson had unsuccessful trial stints with Belgian side Anderlecht and French club Bastia along the line.
He has revealed that perhaps if he had taken school seriously, he would have had a better career as a professional footballer.
He told Asempa Sports “if I had taken my education serious, I feel I would have made great strides in my career”
“So often times I advise players to be serious with their books as well because without much knowledge especially about contract issues will affect your career”
Wilson is a family man, married with three children (2 girls and a boy).
His son has shown signs of emulating his father’s brilliance on the football pitch.
His father however is eager for young Wilson to right the wrongs that occurred in his career starting with taking his books as serious as he does with his football.
“I have three children, 2 girls and a boy. The boy is a very good footballer but I let him focus more on education” he told Asempa Sports.
“Not taking my education serious affected my career, so I want him to get serious with his books but he’s a very good footballer”, he concluded.
Life after football can be very tricky and difficult for many pro ballers.
Ben Wilson is currently a taxi driver and has another side hustle which he failed to disclose during the interview. He however stresses that he is very much okay with his life.
