Ghana Premier League club Eleven Wonders are in desperate need of financial support to allow for payment of salaries to staff and playing body for the month of March, FMIG can confirm.
The impact of the CoronaVirus crisis is being heavily felt worldwide with sports decimated and its economy paralysed.
The situation is no different from Ghana with Covid-19 cases shooting high and extending the suspension of all football activities.
This has placed a huge financial burden on football clubs and now Eleven Wonders have confirmed they are struggling to pay staff numbering close to 50 persons.
The club’s CEO confirmed this in an interview with Kumasi based Oyerepa FM.
He said their dire financial situation has led to them seeking a loan facility to clear all outstanding arrears.
Albert Commey also mentioned that their situation coupled with others is more reason why the football fraternity needs government to allocate it some portion of the Covid-19 Fund to support amid the challenges.
“March Salaries are outstanding for players, technical and administrative staff which is close to 50 persons”, he revealed.
“If it should remain like this, paying April salary too will be very difficult and we shouldn’t forget these players are also breadwinners of their various families”.
“We will be happy if football could get it’s share of government ‘s stimulus package so we can pay them their salaries,it’s not easy for us” he narrated.
“Looking at the scary nature of Covid-19, you just have to sacrifice for everything”.
“We had to meet the owner of Techiman Eleven Wonders at his village on Sunday on how to pay these salaries and Nana Ameyaw told us if even we have to go for a loan facility to pay them we have to because his cashew business has halted, a previous consignment sent to China has not being sold and no export has being done as well”, Albert Commey concluded.
