Midfielder of Asante Kotoko SC, Justice Blay has opposed the idea of implementing salary cuts for Ghanaian players amid the CoronaVirus outbreak.

The Covid-19 disease termed a global pandemic by the WHO, has caused almost all sporting activities to be halted with experts projecting sports organisations and clubs could suffer a huge financial blow as a result.

Clubs in mainstream Europe like Juventus and Barcelona have implemented measures including salary cuts and deferrals to cut down on expenditure and minimise cost based on the huge financial implications this whole situation brings.

Such discussions have been had on local media platforms as Ghanaian clubs contemplate measures to beat down expenditure following the suspension of the Ghana Premier League.

Reacting to a question as to whether, a salary cut option is viable in Ghana, Blay declined and suggested players won’t accept it.

He told local station Kumasi FM that “which player in Ghana will accept this, how much do we earn for them to slash it. Some players even earn as low as GHC150,how much will these players earn after this pay cut”.

The GFA and GHALCA are expected to meet government to find ways support can be given clubs during these difficult times.
