Playing and scoring against USM Algiers in the semifinal of the 2004 CAF Confederation Cup has left an indelible memory for former Asante Kotoko midfielder Yusif Chibsah.
Chibsah rose to the occasion in Kumasi and powered Kotoko to the final with a late strike against the Algeria side and says that’s his list memorable game for the Porcupine Warriors.
The Porcupine Warriors lost the first leg by 1-0 in Algiers, before making a comeback in the second leg to qualify to the final of the competition.
Chibsah scored a late volley to secure the final ticket for the Porcupines after Nana Arhin Duah had given them the lead in the first half.
Speaking to footballmadeinghana.com in an exclusive interview, Chibsah recounted fond memories of the game.
“My memorable game for Asante Kotoko is our Confederation Cup semi-final game against USM Algiers in Kumasi,” he said.
“We lost the first leg by 1-0 in Algiers before winning by 2-0 in Kumasi. I scored the winning goal with a volley in the late minutes of the game.
“That goal sent us to the final. I will never forget about that goal. I’m still looking for the footage of the goal to show to my children,” he added.
The Porcupine Warriors were beaten in the finals by Hearts of Oak by 8-7 on penalties after tying 2-2 on aggregate in front of their home fans at the Baba Yara Stadium.
