After enjoying a stellar career kicking the ball ex Ghana international Opoku Afriyie has kicked the bucket.
Popularly known as ‘Bayie’, Opoku Afriyie died on Sunday, 29 March, 2020 in Kumasi aged 75.
The actual cause of his death has not been made known yet.
Bayie was a prominent member of the Black Stars squad that won the 1978 African Cup of Nations.
He netted twice as Ghana beat Uganda in the final.
Opoku Afriyie also played for Asante Kotoko for several years before signing for Hearts of Oak prior to ending his footballing career.
He was the top scorer in the Ghana domestic football league in 1979 and again in 1981.
After his playing days, Opoku Afriyie serves as the Black Stars team manager and welfare officer.
