Ghana defender John Boye captained FC Metz to a crucial slim margin away victory away at Amiens in the French Ligue 1 on Saturday.
The game served a battle-for-survival scenario with both teams needing maximum points to boost their survival chances in the league as the season draws to a close.
Boye was handed the captain’s armband by Metz Coach Vincent Hognon and the experienced defender led excellently from the back as Les Grenats shut up shop for Amiens attack and helped his side keep a clean sheet.
The 32 year old was yellow carded in the 18th minute for tripping an opponent, but he kept a cool head afterwards to complete the entire duration of the game.
In the end, Farid Boulaya’s goal in the first half won Metz the maximum points as they move to 15th on the league log; 4 points above the relegation spot.
Another Black Stars defender, Nicholas Opoku played full throttle for Amiens who are now in deep trouble. The Ligue 1 strugglers are stuck with 22 points, occupying the 19th position on the league table.
