Medeama’s Prince of Goals strikes gold to leave Miners empty-handed
Medeama SC’s ‘Prince of Goals’ struck gold again to hand his side a crucial 1-0 win over visiting AshGold SC in a Ghana Premier League Week 6 encounter.
Prince Opoku Agyemang netted his 5th goal of the season (4 in the last 3 games) to return Medeama to winning ways while handing Ashgold their second consecutive defeat this campaign.
Coach Samuel Boadu reinstated Kwesi Donsu in the starting pack while returning from injury left-back Phillip Appiah was also accommodated.
The game served as Kasim Gökyildiz’s first for AshGold and the Turkish trainer made some personnel and tactical adjustment in the Miners’ starting eleven.
An exciting first half by both sides failed to produce a goal as the game entered recess still barren.
Medeama returned from the break more fired up and pushed in search of their first goal.
The goal eventually came in the 65th minute when Prince Opoku Agyemang scored from the spot to give the hosts the lead.
This was the striker’s 3rd straight penalty goal at the Akoon Park, Tarkwa with the previous two coming against Hearts and Kotoko.
Despite subsequent charges by Ashgold to get a leveler, Medeama SC held on to finish 1-0 winners.
They now move to third on 13 points just one behind league leaders Berekum Chelsea and level with second-placed Aduana Stars.
