Accra Hearts of Oak started their new season on a difficult note after suffering a 1-0 pipping at home by Berekum Chelsea as the new Ghana Premier League season commenced on Sunday.
A 34th minute strike by Jonah Attoquaye was enough to send the Phobians to early sleep after Kim Grant’s side panted without success.
After creating lots of chances, the Phobians failed to snatch even a point at home in the league opener.
Attoquaye broke the deadlock for the visitors in the 34th minute to end the first half of the game.
Hearts of Oak returned from the recess and dominated possession but all yielded no fruit as Ahmed Adam and his counterparts kept the back tight.
Coach Kim Grant started throwing more men upfront for the equalizer in the 66th minute as Aminu Alhassan was replaced by Kofi Kordzi.
Skipper Fatawu Mohammed’s effort in the 68th minute went wide for a goal kick in what looked like the equaliser for the home side.
Chelsea made their first change as Kofi Owusu came out for Solomon Commey in the 75th minute.
Kofi Kordzi nearly restored parity for the home side as his strike in the 80th minute hit the crossbar for a goal kick.
The visitors held on to their lead till the blast of the final whistle pulling the shock of the week.
