Ghana U23 manager Ibrahim Tanko has named his final 21-man squad for the upcoming U23 AFCON tournament in Egypt as the Black Meteors aims at making history in the competition.
The squad is made of 11 foreign-based players and 10 home-based players.
Tanko and his charges aim at making history by qualifying for the 2020 Olympic Games as Ghana has missed out of the competition since last appearing in 2004.
Africa will present only three representatives for the tournament – the finalists and the 3rd placed side and Ghana eyes a spot in any of these to make it to Japan next year.
With most of the clubs in Europe not ready to release their players for the tournament, Tanko had to rely on a second option of inviting players who have not been overly regular for their sides.
Isaac Twum, Osman Bukari, Majeed Ashmeru, Bernard Terkpetey, Gideon Mensah and Dauda Mohammed were unable to turn up for the tournament but Tanko has swiftly replaced them with Emmanuel Lomotey, Evans Mensah, Frank Arhin, Edward Sarpong, and Ropapa Mensah.
