The Black Stars B of Ghana will have to be given extra security as they head to Ouagadougou for the second leg of the 2020 CHAN Qualifier with Burkina Faso to be played on Sunday following terrorist attacks in the country.
Security will have to be strengthened at all frontiers of Burkina Faso ahead of the game as the attack at the Grand Mosque in the small town of Salmossi in the Oudalan region two days ago has left 16 dead.
It appears the attacks are synonymous with the CHAN Qualifiers as a similar incident occurred in the capital Ouagadougou two years ago when the Black Stars B were hosted by their Burkinabe counterparts.
The Palace Hotel used by the Black Stars B was attacked by some unknown people just a day after the team had departed Ouagadougou for Accra.
The current situation in Burkina Faso has left most of the players and the technical team in shivers considering the stature of the game.
Reports from Burkina Faso indicate that the attack at the mosque over the weekend is part of wider conflicts in the country, as its battle to control ongoing violence becomes ever more difficult.
Until 2015, the West African nation was largely spared the violence that was notorious in neighboring Mali and Niger.
But since then terrorists linked to various terror networks have begun to infiltrate Burkina Faso.
Guerrilla hit-and-run tactics combined with mines and suicide bombings have resulted in the deaths of almost 600 civilians in recent years, according to news agency AFP as the attacks are becoming an almost daily occurrence.
The reports from Burkina Faso have left the Black Stars B at sixes and sevens, but footballmadeinghana.com understands that the Sports Ministry is set to get the team a flight fly to Burkina Faso and back in less than 48 hours.
The team is likely to jet off from Ghana on Saturday morning, touch down in the afternoon, training in the evening and play the game the next day and return right after the clash.
The game remains a crucial exercise for the Black Stars B following their first defeat to the Local Stallions at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium about a month ago.
Nothing but a win can see the Black Stars B qualifying for the tournament they missed out in 2015 and 2018.
