Despite agitations that Gideon Mensah should have stayed at Red Bull Salzburg to fight for a position in the team, the defender has revealed that it is the best decision for his development.
The Ghana U23 defender has been farmed out to Belgian side Zulte-Waregem on loan from RB Salzburg this summer.
The deal becomes the second loan spell for the young Ghanaian but Gideon believes it is the best decision for him.
“I had a great preseason with Red Bull and the coaches, team mates and everyone was impressed with my performance and was expecting me to be in the team.
“But something was surely not cool for me because I was competing with the captain of the team who has been with the club for 11 years now, and for sure, you don’t expect them to put him on the bench and play me,” he told FootballMadeInGhana.com
‘I could stay and fight for my chance but then I could play 4 or 5 games in the season which will not be good for my development.
“So we concluded that they will need me later so I have to go to a team where I will have enough playing time to augment my development.
“If I had chosen to stay it will be good for the team because they have a backup but for me, it will not be good because it won’t help my development.
The young left back is a key member of Ghana’s U23 side and played a pivotal role in qualifying the team for the U23 AFCON Tournament for the first time for Ghana.
