Ghanaian coach Charles Akonnor has dismissed reports of his appointment as the new head coach of the Guinea national team.

On Tuesday, the Former Asante Kotoko manager was rumored to have been given the nod for the vacant position by Guinea Football Federation (FGF).

However, Akunnor has rubbished the claim insisting he is yet to undergo an interview in Conakry along with the other coaches shortlisted for the job.

“It is never true I have been appointed the national team coach of Guinea,I have been just shortlisted ….thus the fact ……” the 45-year-old manager tweeted.

Other notable names on the shortlist are Former Chelsea and Leicester City coach Claudio Ranieri, the former Belgium, Tunisia and Algeria coach Georges Leekens and the former DR Congo coach Florent Ibenge.

Former Burkina Faso and Gabon coach Paulo Duarte, ex-Togo coach Didier Six and Francois Zahoui who has coached both Ivory Coast and Niger will also be interviewed.

The new coach will succeed Paul Put who was sacked after Guinea exited the recent Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt in the round of 16 stage.
