Ashantigold beat Kotoko 3-4 on penalties to win the 2019 B K Edusei Cup at the Baba Yara Stadium.
With no goals in the entire duration of the game , the Miners proved that Porcupines can be beaten on penalties.
Asante Kotoko coach Kjetil Zachariassen handed debut to Samed Ibrahim and Kingsley Effah.
Whilst Ashantigold made one change to the team that started against Akonangui FC. Appiah McCarthy was preferred instead of Mark Agyakum.
The visitors suffered a blow a minute after kick off as Eric Osei Agyemang was stretched off due to injury , Musah Mohammed was quickly introduced to replace him.
It was Ashantigold who started very well dominating proceedings with lovely exchanges in midfield.
Shafiu Mumuni came close to break the deadlock for the miners but his shot was blocked by Habib Mohammed.
The miners continued their dominance with excellent passes between Anabila, James and Mc Carthy but couldn’t test Felix Annan.
Asante Kotoko had their first chance of the game in the 33rd minute, Richard Arthur tested frank Boateng with a powerful header but the young goalkeeper did well to pounced it away.
No chance was created as the referee whistled for the end of the first half
Kotoko made two changes before the second half, Mudasiru Salifou and Augustine Okrah were brought on for Kingsley Effah and Jordan Opoku.
Mudasiru Salifou nearly give Asante Kotoko the lead with his first touch in the game, but his strike was saved by Boateng.
Shafiu Mumuni on the hand failed to connect a good cross from Eric Donkor.
Ashantigold came close again in the 77th minute, but Kwadwo Amoako’s effort went wide.
Ashantigold dominated the die embers of the game but couldn’t get the breakthrough as referee whistled for the end of the game.
The Miners won 4-3 on Penalties.
