A change in nationality rule in Belgium means Royal Antwerp defender is no longer eligible to apply for a Belgian citizenship.
Prior to the passing of this new law, the Ghanaian international who is in his third season with the Great Old would have been able to free up more space in the squad for another non-EU player.
From now on, naturalized Belgians will only be eligible after playing for a club in Belgium for at least three years before their 23rd birthday.
Each club must have six such players on their roster.
Because of these new rules, Opare no longer qualifies as a local player.
