Despite the gloomy picture painted about him, Kwesi Nyantakyi kept pushing for several Ghanaians to gain top positions at the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) level, and George Afriyie has sauted him for that.
George Afriyie took his first major assignments at the Nations Cup as Match Commissioner in the game between Angola and Mauritania and has confirmed Nyantakyi played a crucial role in earning him a place on the CAF Organising Committee.
George was speaking to GBC commentator Benjamin Willie Graham in Egypt ahead of his assignments on Friday.
“First of all we need to be thankful to the former President Mr. Kwesi Nyantakyi,” he said.
“When he was the CAF 1st Vice President he made sure a lot of Ghanaians got the opportunity to serve on CAF committees,” he noted.
“It’s not that Ghanaians weren’t capable or were not better than others on the continent but we have to be honest, when it comes to football in Africa, you can’t count three or more countries without Ghana.”
George Afriyie joins the likes of former FA Spokesperson Ibrahim Saanie Daara, a member of the Media team in Egypt, and Dr. Pambo, who is part of the Medical team of CAF and Chief Executive Officer for Ashanti Gold Frederick Acheampong who is also a match Commissioner at the tournament.
