The Black Stars of Ghana shared the spoils with their West African counterpart Benin in their first game in group F.
Mikael Pote broke the deadlock of the game in the 2nd minute of the game, before Andre Ayew and Jordan Ayew scored to give Ghana the lead, Pote’s got his second of the day and made sure the squirrels went home with a point.
Footballmadeinghana.com rated the performance of Black Stars player by (10)
Richard Ofori (GK)( 6/10) – The Martizburg goalkeeper looked a bit suspect at times. Could be blame for the second goal for failing to control his defense. In all he was good.
Andy Yiadom ( 6/10) – Was defensively OK. Didn’t do much to help Atsu on the right. Improved in the second half after his side where reduced to 10men.
John Boye ( 5/10)- Very dominant in the air. Defended very well in the first half. Won almost all the one on one battles. Could be faulted for Allowing Pote enough time to score the first goal. Very unfortunate he was sent off in the second half.
Kasim Nuhu (6/10) – Can’t be blamed for both Benin games. Was great on the air but struggled when on pressure. Not a bad AFCON debut for the Hoffenheim defender.
Lumor Agbeyenu (5 /10)- Struggled at the beginning of the game, got better in the second half. Was let down by his final delievary in so many instances.
Mubarak Wakaso ( 6/10) – Was lively as usual, made a lot of interception in midfield. Got most of his passes wrong. Committed a lot of fouls in the game.
Thomas Partey (6 /10) – Not the best of Thomas Partey, he was largely unanimous in the game. Didn’t provide much on the attack. Was defensively solid.
Thomas Agyepong ( 3/10) – Played only 35 minute, before he was forced off due to injury. Didn’t make any impact in the game.
Christian Atsu ( 6/10)- Started the game very well and made a lot of runs on the wings. His crosses were on point. Faded in the second half.
Andre Ayew (C) ( 7/10) – Restored parity for Ghana with a great strike. Was all over the pitch. Got tired in the second half. Didn’t do much in the second half.
Jordan Ayew ( 8/10) – arguably my man of the match. Was thorn in the flesh for the Benin defense. Contributed a lot for the team. Capped up his performance with a good finish to give Ghana the lead.
Substitutes
Samuel Owusu ( 4 /10) – Came in for the injured Thomas Agyapong. Showed some glimpses of what he is capable of doing. He was withdrawn for Jonathan Mensah after John Boye received his marching orders
Jonathan Mensah ( 5/10) – Added stability at the back. Partnered Kasim nuhu very well at the back.
Kwesi Appiah (6/10) – Got his selection spot on. His team reaction after going down earlier in the game should be credit to him. Got his substitution wrong after his side went a man down.
