There has been a mixed reaction from the Ghanaian public since Asamoah Gyan shockingly announced his retirement from Black Stars on Monday.
The Kayserispor forward decided to call time on his national team career after it was reported that Coach Kwesi Appiah was set to name Andre Ayew as the new captain of Black Stars ahead of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
The 33-year old has scored 51 goals in 106 appearances for the national team since making his debut in 2003.
He played in seven Africa Cup of Nations and three World Cups for the Black Stars.
Fans took to their social media accounts to share their thoughts on the issue;
Hurts that Gyan chooses to undo the grace and class of 16 years, 106 caps and 51 goals – indubitably one of the most accomplished careers this land has ever seen – by bowing out basically because he cannot accept someone else captaining the team while he’s still an active member.

Terrible timing for Kwesi Appiah

Ghanaians and football. No point insulting Asamoah Gyan. He's played his part and paid his dues. He took the flag of Ghana to many places that our International Relations strategy could not even deliver. Let's thank him for his sacrifices for Ghana. My thinking..
