Ghanaians will finally be happy to see the Black Stars revert to the popular Ghana jersey for the 2019 AFCON with the Sports Ministry making frantic efforts to get the new design for the team.
After over a decade of lamentations regarding the Ghana national colours of red, gold and green with the black star symbol in the national team’s jerseys, the Sports Ministry, as a matter of urgency, has held talks with the Normalization Committee for a possible change of jersey for the tournament.
Deep throat sources within the Sports Ministry have revealed to footballmadeinghana.com that talks are far advanced to get the Black Stars clothed with the popular national colours for the fiesta in Egypt.
The source further revealed that former Black Stars defender and member of the NC Sammy Kuffour has been mandated by the committee to see to the redesign of the new jersey.
With the Puma kit sponsorship for the national teams over, the NC is expected to renew the deal with the AFCON just less than two months away.
The new jersey, is therefore, expected to replicate the historic Ghana colours as the Black Stars aim at conquering the continent.
The last time the original red, gold green jersey with the black stars symbol was used was in 2000 when Ghana co-hosted the AFCON after Zimbabwe pulled out of hosting the tourney.
This news will be heartwarming for many football enthusiasts who have been mooting for Ghana to have a change of jersey from the all-white and all-red colours.
Ghana have been chasing the AFCON trophy after winning it the last time in 1982.
The Black Star have been to the semifinals of the AFCON since 2010 but are yet to lay hands on the trophy.
