Ghana’s female senior national team – the Black Queens – got off to a winning start at the WAFU Zone B championship in Ivory Coast, beating their Senegalese counterparts 2-0.
Two second half goals from Evelyn Badu and Mukarama Abdullai helped Ghana to secure the comfortable win.
Speaking to the media after the game, head Coach Mercy Tagoe-Quarcoo lamented the importance of starting the tournament with a win as they look to defending their title in Ivory Coast.
“We are always slow starters when we go to tournaments.
“But this time, we didn’t come to lose because we are defending champions,” she said.
“Everybody is looking up to us. They want to see if our team is good or not.”
Ghana will face Togo on Thursday in their second game of the competition.
