Ghana Football Association Presidential aspirant George Afriyie has called on influential women to embrace and develop interest in women’s football if they want the sport to grow in the country.
According to him, the only thing that will draw the interest of women for the women’s game is through the influence of influential women in the country.
George Afriyie was answering questions on Oman FM on his plans for the women football.
“As we talk about women football, if we want it to be good, I want a lot more women to develop interest in women football.
“In order for every sports to develop, people’s interest in it makes it bigger.
“But in Ghana, the men are mostly doing the women football than the women they are supporting,” he noted.
“As leaders, we have to try and draw influential women in our society, if they become ambassadors for the game, it will be easy for them to carry other people to the stadium”
He added: “Take actress like Yvonne Nelson coming out and say every weekend I want to go and watch Hassacas Ladies or Police Ladies, when she is going definitely she will take others with her. Those people will also develop interest.
“Imagine the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission develop interest in women football and say she is going to watch football.
“the news that will come after her action alone will generate interest and people will follow.
Many women have started the call for the role influential women can play in the women’s game with Nana Aba Asamoah and other known actress taking the mantle.
