Asante Kotoko got off the Normalization Committee Special Competition with a win by beating Aduana Stars by lone goal at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Sunday.
Abass Mohammed’s early goal was the difference as Kotoko laboured to overcome 10-men Aduana Stars.
C. K. Akonnor handed striker Zabo Teguy his second start in Asante Kotoko shirt, whiles Ismael Abdul Ganiu who just recovered from injury started along side Wahab Adams at the heart of defense.
Aduana Stars meanwhile were led by former Kotoko attacker Yahaya Mohammed upfront.
With Noah Martey and Elvis Opoku also starting in midfield.
It took Kotoko only a minute and 44 seconds to break the deadlock of the game.
Abass Mohammed capitalized on a good pass from Fatawu to give Kotoko the lead.
It was all Kotoko after the goal as they look to add on to their lead.
Emmanuel Gyamfi came close to add the second but Joseph Addo was there at the right time to deny him.
Aduana Stars settled in the game as Elvis Opoku and Noah Martey dictated the pace of the game.
Yahaya Mohammed in the 30th minute look to have leveled the score for his team, but was flagged offiside.
Yahaya came close again in the 40th minute effecting a powerful free kick just in front of the 18 yard, but his effort was saved by Felix Annan.
Kotoko were forced to make three substitution because of injury.
Zabo Teguy came off in the 9th minute for Stephen Nyarko, Kwame Bonsu also made way for Prince Acquah before Wahab Adams was also forced off for Agyemang-Badu just before the end of the first half whistle.
Asante Kotoko came in the second with a lot of energy as they look to get the second goal.
It was Aduana Stars who who had the first chance, as Yahaya Mohammed’s effort was blocked by Agyemang-Badu.
Noah Martey received the marching orders in the 75th minute after receiving his second yellow for a challenge on Martin Antwi.
Fatawu Safiu came close from a free kick but was saves by Joseph Addo.
Four minutes of additional time was added but none of the sides was able to find the back of the net as Kotoko held on to their 1-0 lead
