Former Black Stars goalkeeper Abubakar Damba has blasted the technical handlers of the national U20 team for benching Asante Kotoko goalkeeper Danlad Ibrahim at the U20 AFCON in Niger.

According the former keeper, Danlad Ibrahim should have been the first choice goalkeeper instead of Manaf Nurudeen.

Danlad who was the first choice goalie for Ghana at the U17 World Cup in 2017 was made the third choice by Jimmy Corblah, with Manaf Nurudeen and Frederick Asare being preferred.

And Damba believes it was unfortunate for Jimmy Corblah to take that decision.

“Saying Dandlad is young is unfortunate. He performed marvelously well at the U17 in India. What then makes him young? He had the exposure what again? If you remember I made a lot of analysis as far as Danland is concerned and he is the way forward,” Damba fumed.

He added that the Asante Kotoko young shot stopper is the future of goalkeeping in the country.

“He is the future of goalkeeping so far as the senior national teams are concerned,” he added.

“Danlad should have been the starting goalkeeper. I’m not taking anything from anybody. He should have started or at least the coach should have used him in the third game,” he noted.

Abubakar Damba was once the shot stopper for the Black Stars and is currently a private goalkeepers trainer after several years of experience with many clubs in Ghana.

“We should nature the kid, and bring him up systematically but very very cautiously.

“U17, he should come to under 20, under 23 then we will see progression. This is a young goalkeeper who has started very well. I look at him and I picture Ali Jaara, I picture Sammy Adjei and Osei Boateng.”
