Ghanaian defender Isaac Donkor has popped up as a top favourite for several Serie A clubs with Atalanta, Torino and Sassuolo leading the race for the signature of the fine defender.

Having enjoyed an amazing season with Universitatea Criaova in the Romania Liga 1, the Ghanaian defender is likely to stage a return into the Serie A after previously playing for Inter Milan.

The hardworking defender joined the Romanian outfit last summer and has been a huge addition to the side, staring all 16 games in the first round of the season.

Following his impressive showing in the Liga 1, the Serie A clubs are lining up to wrestle over his signature as a return to Italy looks imminent.

Donkor who spent his formative stages at Inter Milan and even captained their youth side is very familiar with Italian football and will fit in immediately he stages a return into the league.

Having conceded 27 and 32 goals respectively in the first round of the Serie A, Atalanta and Sassuolo are looking to patch up their leaking defence with Donkor seen as the right replacement while Torino look to strengthen their back ahead of the start of the second round.

Donkor’s aggression and intelligence in ball distribution are great attributes for the Ghanaian that have placed him ahead of several other candidates.

Reports in the Italian media suggest that Atalanta lead the race to sign the Ghanaian but Torino and Sassuolo are doubling their steps.
