Head coach Charles Kwablan Akonnor says he was a bit nervous moments before Amos Frimpong converted from the spot to restore Asante Kotoko’s lead against Kariobangi Sharks of Kenya during their second-leg class of the Confederatin Cup First Round tie in Kumasi.
Striker Abdul Fatawu Safiu put his side ahead after 18 minutes with a clever finish but the Kenyans equalized ten minutes later but it did not take long for the hosts to have the opportunity to restore their lead as Songne Yacouba was brought down in the area and referee Mashood Ssila pointed to the spot.
Amos Frimpong – Kotoko’s principal penalty taker – stepped forward and converted to make it 2-1 for the Porcupine Warriors but C.K Akonnor says before the penalty was taken he was a bit nervous.
“Yes I was hot before the penalty. What I did was that I prayed for Amos to score it and he did.” Akonnor revealed at the post-match press conference.
