The Black Meteors of Ghana produced a huge performance to destroy Togo U-23 by 5-1 on Tuesday afternoon in Kumasi in the first leg of their 2019 CAF U-23 Africa Cup of Nations qualification series.
Striker Owusu Kwabena‘s sublime opener in the 19th minute put Ghana ahead but Togo came level in the 33rd at the Babayara sports stadium when Klidje Thibault scored.
The animated Kwabena went on to realize a fantastic three-goal hat trick as Osman Bukari and substitute Nassam Yakubu Ibrahim added a goal each for the Meteors
But the 28th minute of the game particularly caught the attention of the crowd when Ghana were awarded a penalty after former Asokwa Deportivo forward Joel Fameyeh was brought down in the box. Yaw Yeboah – who donned the prestigious number 10 shirt – wanted to take the spot kick but Fameyeh who created the penalty opportunity elected himself to effect it but saw his poor kick saved by goalkeeper Aigba Abdoul Moubarak.
“Yes I wanted to take it but Fameyeh also had the confidence to effect it so there was no problem.” Yeboah said after the game.
“He told me he wanted to take it but unfortunately he missed it but thats okay. Its part of the game. The most important thing is that we won. That is what matters most” the CD Numancia offensive midfielder explained.
Togo will receive the Ghanaians on December 22 for the second leg in Lome.
