The Black Meteors of Ghana made a giant step towards qualification for next years U23 AFCON with a convincing 5-1 victory over Togo at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi on Tuesday Afternoon.
Striker Kwabena Owusu gave Ghana the lead within the first quarter of the game with a fantastic finish after cutting in from the left flank.
Belarus-based Joel Fameyeh could have made it two in the 30th minute after he was brought down but his spot kick was saved by Togolese goalkeeper Angba Moubarak.
The visitors stepped up their game and snatched an equalizer through Klidje Thibault in the 38th minute. The first half ended 1-1.
The Meteors opened fire on the Togolese in the second half and restored their lead through Osman Bukari in the 63rd minute after a neat build up.
It was certainly going to be a day for Owusu as he netted again in the 72nd and 77th minute to complete a memorable hat-trick.
Substitute Nassamu Yakubu put the icing on the cake with the fifth goal for Ghana in the 85th minute.
The Black Meteors will travel to Lome for the return leg on Sunday.
