Cameroon will spend over $15 million on the rehabilitation of hospitals in the host cities of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations to be staged from 15 June to 13 July next year, the central African country’s Finance ministry has announced in its budget for 2019.
The country of Samuel Eto’o, Roger Milla and Patrick Mboma will spend 9 billion CFA (15, 483, 339 USD) for the rehabilitation of the regional hospitals of Buea, Limbe, Bafoussam and Garoua; Laquintinie hospital in Douala and Central Hospital in Yaoundé.
The minister of health Mr. André Mama Fouda defended this astronomical budget proposal before the Finance Committee.
In detail the health ministry plans to acquire new scanners for the four regional hospitals mentioned above to replace the existing ones ahead of the tournament next June. Purchase of various biomedical equipment is also in the budget.
The country is also acquiring 88 Mobile Intensive Care Unit ambulances before the 24-team tournament commences in the central African country.
Madagascar, Egypt, Tunisia, Comoros, Mauritius, Morocco, Uganda, Ivory Coast, Senegal, Mali, Nigeria, Guinea have all qualified to the tournament finals as Cameroon qualifies automatically as hosts.
