Captain Mukarama Abdulai scored her 6th goal of the tournament with another brace against New Zealand on Tuesday night to hand Ghana a 100% record in the group stage.
It was Ghana’s third victory in as many matches in the group level.
Mukarama, arguably the best player of the ongoing FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, broke the deadlock at the hour mark after taking advantage of a defensive weakness of the New Zealand back line.
Mukarama ran fastest onto a long ball lifted over the opponent’s defence before dinking the ball over the goalkeeper.
The Tamale Secondary School product was on the score sheet again one minute to full time with another incredible effort – but despite Mukarama deciding the contest it was Grace Anima that was voted Woman of the match.
Ghana will now face Mexico in the quarter-finals on Sunday 25 November in Montevideo whilst New Zealand meet Japan.
Evans Adotey’s team deserved their victory with 62% of ball possession in their favor whilst the Black Maidens made 440 passes as against 287 of the opposition.
