Ghana striker Sherrifatu Sumaila was adjudged the Player of the Match in the 1-0 win over Algeria on Saturday evening.
The Black Queens won their opening match at the 2018 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations through a 20-yard screamer from defender Gladys Amfobea.
Ghana should have had buried their opponents with an avalanche of goals but for a combination of bad misses and heroic goalkeeper from Kahina Takenint.
Takenint’s impressive performance put her in contention for the Player of the Match award but organizers handed the prize to Sherrifatu Sumaila instead.
Ghana now tops Group A of the tournament with Cameroon and Mali to play in the other group fixture later Saturday evening.
