The Indomitable Lionesses came from a goal down to defeat Mali by 2-1 in Group A’s second game on opening day of the 2018 African Women Cup of Nations and have moved to the summit of Group A with this result. 

The team coached by Touongo Ndoko Joseph Brillant conceded first as Aissata Traore put Mali ahead in the 56th minute but Claudine Meffometou Tcheno equalized for the 2016 finalists in the 71st minute following a goalmouth melee.

The Cameroonians did not waste any time at all and took the lead just two minutes later through Ajara Nchout.

Ghana provisionally went top of the standings after recording a 1-0 win over Algeria but have now been displaced by the Cameroonians who lead the group on more goals (2) scored as the tournament tie-breaking criteria indicates.

Ghana play Mali and Cameroon do battle against Algeria, both games taking place on Wednesday at the Accra sports stadium.
