This gave the President an unbridled power to pick his no.2 and members of his ‘inner cabinet’.
But the GHALCA Special Committee tasked to propose reforms for the GFA wants this provision returned to when the Vice President and members of the Emergency Committee are elected from the membership of the Executive Committee.
The proposed amendment as contained in the committee’s report reads: ‘At the maiden meeting of the Executive Committee the members shall elect from amongst them the Vice President and three others to join the President and the Vice President to form the Emergency Committee.’
This proposed amendment will be tabled to the entire membership of GHALCA in a general meeting on Tuesday.
If approved, the proposed amendment will be forwarded to the Normalisation Committee for their consideration.
The GHALCA Special Committee is proposing an amendment of a provision in the Ghana FA Statutes which gives the President the power to appoint his Vice President and members of the Emergency Committee.
Article 30.3 of the GFA Statutes reads: “At the maiden meeting of the Executive Committee the President shall appoint from its membership of the Executive Committee, the Vice President of the GFA and three other members who shall together with the President form the five (5) members of the Emergency Committee.”
