Asante Kotoko will be competing in the CAF Confederation Cup this season following a moment of confusion at the Ghana Football Association normalisation committee.
The Kofi Amoah-led committee and Ghana club owners met on October 19 in Accra and took the decision to bar Ghanaian clubs from Africa but Asante Kotoko refused to agree and are now expected to represent the country in Africa for the 2018/19 season.
But Policy Analyst of the Porcupine Warriors Amoh Sarpong believes the decision to go to Africa has numerous benefits for the club including head coach C.K Akonnor who has never managed in Africa before.
“Going to Africa has lot of benefits for the club and even the head coach himself.” Amo Sarpong told Kumasi-based Silver FM.
“So far as I know Akonnor has never managed in Africa before. He’s not been there in the Africa competitions. And so this is even going to be a big expose for him” he explained.
Sarpong also believes the decision to play in Africa is the best the Kotoko management has made since they came into office.
“For me this is the best decision this management of the club has taken to go to Africa. It is a considered decision we have made.” he added.
C.K Akonnor has managed Eleven Wise, Hearts of Oak, Dreams FC, Ashantigold but never managed a team in Africa but now the time has come for him to be tested on the continent.
