Kumasi Asante Kotoko are not winning big sponsorship deals because of lack of competitive football in the country and this is according to Kotoko general manager George Amoako.
The football season was halted following the Tiger Eye Pi investigative video – on June 6th – into corruption of Ghana football.
FIFA had to appoint a normalization committee to run the Ghana Football Association and the general manager of the Porcupine Warriors reveals the Anas expose has had an adverse impact on the Ghanaian soccer giants.
“We were about the land some massive sponsorships but were delayed by what happened. Because there is no competitive football we could not get those big deals done.” George Amoako revealed at the launching ceremony of the sponsorship agreement between the club and Paradise Pac Drinking water on Thursday.
“I have always said this. That Kotoko deserves more of these big sponsorship deals in order to increase the revenue of the club. It is the only way we can grow the club and achieve what we want to achieve.” he added.
“But because there is no football at the moment we could not get those big sponsorships.”
Asante Kotoko currently have four sponsors namely MTN, Goil, Hollard Insurance and now Paradise Pac Drinking water but Amoako agrees the club management has to add more.
“I agree with you if you say the four sponsorships we have are small. Yes. But let me assure all of you here that we are seriously working to get on board more bodies to sponsor us. Very soon once competitive season resumes we shall get those deals done.” he explained.
