The FIFA normalization committee for the Ghana Football Association organized a press conference on Wednesday to update the media about the committee’s activities so far since its appointment on September 13 but the biggest news was the disgraceful conduct of one of its members, lawyer Duah Adonteng.
The former Asante Kotoko board member brought shame to the committee on the day of its maiden press conference.
“I am not interested in this stupidity,” was the reaction by the lawyer who was rightly chided by journalist Ekow Asmah for arriving over an hour late to the press conference at the Alisa Hotel.
Duah Adonteng, involved in top level of football administration in the country, should have known better. A committee member that is in to normalize and reform things at the GFA cannot be successful with this manner of behaviour responding to criticisms.
When the football administrator Takyi Ahen made a scathing attack against some members of this same normalization committee he suffered what was somewhat a nationwide condemnation and the Techiman Eleven Wonders official had to apologize and so a deviation was generally hardly expected from any of the members of the normalisation committee but it was not the case at the Alisa Hotel.
Ekow Asmah has said lawyer Adonteng did not deserve to be part of the normalization committee for his lateness.
Was this a fair a statement by Ekow? It may be harsh but that was his candid opinion.
Could lawyer Adonteng have responded in a better and acceptable way? Of course yes. But to describe it as “stupidity” is definitely not acceptable by someone who is said to have passed a FIFA integrity test.
The ability to respond to criticisms in a professional and acceptable manner is also competency and Duah Adonteng failed this competency test on Wednesday.
However this can be an opportunity for the lawyer to reform and redeem himself. He is not a super man and will definitely make mistakes but it is his ability of self redemption that matters most.
Majority of those who held the highest GFA positions before this committee refused to redeem and learn from their mistakes and were so stubborn and arrogant that they ended in destruction and that is why we are at this new era.
The normalization committee should be warned and reminded if they have forgotten.
Gariba.
