Michael Essien has paid a glowing tribute to his former Chelsea teammate John Terry upon announcing his retirement from football.
The 37-year-old has announced he is hanging up his boots after 23 years of active play.
Terry is reportedly being lined up as a member of a star-studded coaching staff to be named by Aston Villa.
Essien shared great memories during his time at Chelsea with Terry where the latter was then the club captain.
The former Ghana international who is still pursuing an active career despite being clubless over a year had some kind words for his former teammate.
“I wish you all the best for the future,” Essien posted on Instagram.
“You were one of the best leaders I ever played with. Thank you for the memories.”
