Former Black stars and Asante Kotoko player Abdul Razak Karim has stated that local players should not be disadvantaged during national team selections.
Kwesi Appiah did not invite any Ghana-based player in his latest selection.
Coach Abdul Razak affectionately known as Golden Boy also maintains at least a local player must always be in the squad when national team call ups are made.
“For me we shouldn’t abandon our local players, at least one or two players must be in the squad” he told Zuria FM Sports.
“We have depended a lot on the foreign players and they have achieved nothing for us .Why can’t we instill confidence in the local players? Many African countries depends on their local players now and so why can’t we do the same” the 1978 African best player quizzed.
The former Black stars assistant coach also spoke on Ghana’s defeat to Kenya last Saturday.
” A lot happened in the game. I don’t want to blame anyone for the defeat. Coaches approach games based on the opponent they are coming up against.” he explained.
“Sometimes when you know you can’t score in a game, you have to make sure you strengthen your back so that you will not concede . I trust the coaches to turns things around” he added.
