The 2018 Ashanti Regional Colts Rebuilding Tournament kicked off last Monday in Kumasi and over thousand teenager footballers are taking part.
A total of 108 colts clubs involving U13, U15 and U17 teams have signed up to take part in this edition of the colts tournament.
A leader of the tournament organizers – Mr. Amidu Kamara, owner of Asokwa Deportivo – has been speaking to Metro FM.
“This is a tournament we have been doing over the years. This year we started but it was canceled following the Anas video. Now is the best time for us to resume as the children are on vacation. 108 colts teams are taking part so you could imagine the size of the competition” Kamara said.
“Each team is expected to play at least 6 games.”
“So far the start has been fantastic and we are hoping for better things.” he added.
The Asokwa Deportivo manager -credited for the football upbringing of Inter Milan’s Kwadwo Asamoah- took the opportunity to appeal to corporate Ghana, especially those in the Ashanti region to sponsor the tournament as he and his team are fully financing it.
“I would like to continue to appeal to various companies and institutions to come on board to sponsor us in terms of products and finances in order to ease the burden on us” he pleaded.
