Members of the FIFA normalization committee for the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to restore sanity and transparency in the country’s football are set to be known from this week.
FIFA , on Thursday August 16 , after meeting with Ghana government officials in Zurich, announced a normalization committee shall be established to replace the Executive Committee of the GFA in accordance with articles 14 and 8 of the FIFA Statutes.
This meeting and outcome was as a result of FIFA’s threat to suspend Ghana by August 27 should government fail to withdraw a court process to wind up the GFA.
The global body of football said it shall appoint persons with integrity and competence to constitute the membership of the normalization committee upon consultation with government of Ghana and CAF. This integrity examination is however expected to last a week according to our sources as FIFA, CAF and government work together to install the interim body to run Ghana football.
This decision is related, on one part, to government’s readiness to discontinue the process of winding up the GFA following the publishing of football corruption exposé by the Ghanaian undercover investigate journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas in June this year.
The scope and duration of the committee’s mandate is also expected to be announced by FIFA when its composition is unveiled.
