FIFA has resolved to form a Normalization Committee in consultation the Government of Ghana (GoG) and the Confederations of African Football (CAF) to steer the affairs of the Ghana FA.
This resolution was arrived at following a meeting between FIFA and officials of the Ghana government on Thursday in Zurich.
FIFA had issued an ultimatum to the Ghana government to withdraw its lawsuit seeking to liquidate the Ghana FA over alleged corrupt practice.
The ultimatum has a deadline of August 27, leading to the prompt meeting at the request of Ghana President Nana Akufo Addo.
The world football governing body following the meeting now says it will appoint persons with ‘integrity and competence’ to form the membership of a Normalization Committee.
FIFA was represented at the meeting by its President Gianni Infantino, General Secretary Fatma Samura and other high ranking officials while the Ghana government was led by Sports Minister Isaac Asiamah, Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, Deputy Chief of Staff Samuel Jinapor and Deputy-Attorney General Godfred Dame.
Principal amongst the resolutions reached at the meeting include the formation of a Normalization Committee that will replace the Executive Committee of the Ghana FA.
The Government of Ghana will also subsequently withdraw its legal proceedings seeking to liquidate the GFA.
Both Presidents of FIFA and Ghana have committed to work together to offer leadership in reforming football administration in Ghana and Africa.
The GoG and FIFA will also form a joint task force to create proper disciplinary, governance and auditing mechanisms as well as ensure that persons found culpable are punished in accordance with Ghanaian domestic law and the FIFA statutes.
Once these conditions are satisfied, government will proceed to withdraw its lawsuit seeking to dissolve the Ghana Football Association.
With the formation of the Normalization Committee, a clear path towards returning Ghana football to normalcy is being enacted.
