The Cameroon Football Federation appointed Dutchman Clarence Seedorf to be the next coach of the Indomitable Lions and will be assisted by fellow former Dutch international player Patrick Kluivert but this appointment surprises legend Patrick Mboma.
“There were rumors … I was on vacation in Cameroon, so I knew there were contacts. I admit that I am surprised.” Mboma said.
“Seedorf has a very light coaching experience: he has never stayed more than six months in office, either at AC Milan, FC Shenzhen or Deportivo La Coruna. He never had very convincing results. He failed to save Depor from relegation. As for Kluivert, who will be his assistant, he was only coach of Curacao. It still seems very light.” the former Cameroon striker lamented.
“Of course they (Seedorf and Kluivert) were great players. And as such, they are entitled to the greatest respect. Nobody questions what they did as players. But I am surprised that Cameroon, less than a year of the AFCON that it will organize, choose two men who have never worked in Africa, who probably do not know very well African football.” Mboma continued to stress.
“Suffice to say that they will have to get used to the realities of the continent in general and those of Cameroonian football in particular.” he added.
