Former Black Stars striker Godwin Attram says bribery and corruption in Ghana football was as pandemic during his generation as it is today.
“Honestly during our time there were very good players and if even there was bribery in the game it was on the low level as compared to now. You get real soccer players when you go to Corners, Olympics, Eleven Wise, Kotoko, Hearts etc” Attram told FootballmadeinGhana.com.
“One thing is that during our time when you go to the stadium and you see players like Abedi Pele, Shomo Quaye, Ablade Kumah, Joe Debrah play you won’t even think that there is one player that bribed his way into the team. They were too much talented and played better football. So how will you even noticed there was bribery. That won’t come to your mind because you getting value for money” Attram explained.
“But today things have changed and that is why we are at where we are. The bribery is too much in the game and so you cannot really get the best players because maybe if you don’t pay something you won’t get the chance even though you are good” he added.
Attram a product of Accra Great Olympics who also played professionally in Denmark, Egypt and Saudi Arabia believes that this was as result of proper structures that worked during his vintage in the country’s level and wants to see Ghana football back as soon as possible.
“The structures were there in our time. It was the best that played or get selected. I really want to see our football back. I don’t comment on the government and GFA legal issues but what I want to see back is our football” the former coach Great Olympics concluded.
