It has emerged that the newly appointed Medical Officer of Asante Kotoko Jerry Pratt Newton is actually not a trained doctor.
The Ghanaian giants named Newton as part of a newly constituted 11-member management team on Monday night.
Newton’s portfolio on the management team is ‘Medical Officer’ and is to replace Dr. Michael Leat in that role.
Sources in the Ghana Medical Association have revealed to FootballMadeInGhana.com that Newton is not a trained doctor required of the post.
FIFA’s Club Licensing regime demands that every football club appoints a qualified physician to head its medical operations.
The appointment of Jerry Pratt Newton is this a clear breach of FIFA’s Club Licensing regulations.
It is unclear whether Executive Chairman Dr. Kwame Kyei did due diligence in arriving at the choice of Newton for the particular post in his management that requires a specific qualification.
Newton will be working with 10 others in the newly constituted management including experienced administrator George Amoako.
Lawyer Samuel Sarfo Duku will be in charge of Communications, Yaw Amo Sarpong (Policy Analyst), Isaac Donkor (Operations) and Caleb Adams (Psychologist).
The rest are Edmund Ackah (Greater Accra Representative), Nana Kwame Dankwah (Deputy Greater Accra Representative) Rose Padmore Yeboah (Administrative Manager), Lucy Andoh (Deputy Administrative Manager) and Nana Akwasi Gyambebi (Special Assistant to the Executive Chairman).
