FIFA has given the Government a two-week ultimate to withdraw its court action seeking to dissolve the Ghana FA or else risk a ban.
The world football governing body appear to be ready to hand Ghana a ban after its exit from the U20 Women’s World Cup currently ongoing in France.
FIFA refused to invoke a ban on Ghana presumably to save its World Cup as Ghana had qualified for the finals hence the appointment of a two-member Liaison Team.
But with the Black Princesses early exit from the tournament, there is no more impediments in the way of FIFA to hand Ghana the ban.
According to widespread reports FIFA has told the Government of Ghana to withdraw its lawsuit seeking to dissolve the GFA by August 27 failure of which a ban will be invoked.
The Government had secured an injunction to halt all activities of the Ghana FA while it pursues its bid of dissolving the GFA which in itself will see to Ghana’s expulsion from FIFA.
Many had however believed that the expected ban following Government’s move to dissolve the GFA had been avoided since FIFA appeared to be having behind-the-scenes interaction with state officials leading to the appointment of the Liaison Team.
But FIFA has had course to believe that the Liaison Team are overstepping their bounds after they initiated moves to have clubs propose ideas as to what to do with the league competitions which have been truncated over government’s move to dissolve the GFA.
There is also the news of the appointment of Bashir Hayford as the new coach of the senior women’s national team, the Black Queens.
These actions, FIFA believe are the preserve of a functioning member association hence its latest directive to the Ghana government.
FIFA has sent an official notification to this effect.
