Joseph Addo has failed to keep a single clean sheet in four games in this year’s CAF Confederation Cup.
Before the team dropped to the second-tier competition, Addo had kept clean sheets against in the champions league but his performance in the current campaign has raised serious doubts about his goalkeeping.
To be honest and fair to the Local Black Stars number one, his defence has let him down and he is the one taking all the sticks. That is something that should be mentioned in the overall assessment of the goalkeeper.
For instance in the 3-3 draw against Raja Casablanca, the brace of striker Benhalib in Dormaa were the resultant punishments of poor defensive markings by the Ogya defenders and yet it was Joseph whose name was put out there having allowed three goals but when one looks at the detailed manners in which those goals were scored both the defence and the goalkeeper were jointly liable.
Last Sunday in Kinshasa in the AS Vita game, Addo was again at fault for the second goal of the Congolese striker MukasaMundele where he parried a low shot which fell as far as Mundele in the box and the striker excellently rounded him to realize his brace. Even though he made several important saves that prevented the home side from recording a cricket scoreline, Addo was still heavily criticized by many.
In this difficult moment and with two group games remaining is it time for reserve goalkeeper Gordon to be given a chance or should Kenichi continue to trust Addo?
