Not much has been heard from him since supervising a disappointing short stint in the absence of a substantive coach at Asante Kotoko last season.
But in his first radio interview on the club’s performance this season on Adehye FM, Coach Frimpong Manso has jumped to the defence of his under-fire colleague, Paa Kwesi Fabin.
Kotoko have been inconsistent in the last few weeks – struggling to win; losing and drawing their last game at home to Berekum Chelsea. Commenting on that, Frimpong Manso, himself an ex-player of Kotoko and now coach, maintained that, what Kotoko are experiencing has nothing to do with coaching.
“The persistent Kotoko problems has nothing to do with coaching. Let’s consider the timing of the appointment of the coach, where players had already been assembled” he stated arguing that, “[the coach] needs time to study the players and the club needs at least two years to work things out”.
The revered former Kotoko and Black Stars defender also called the Kotoko Management properly evaluate Paa Kwesi’s performance and that of the players.
“Many coaches have walked in and out of Kotoko but the problem still persists. The coach can only produce good results after the first round where he will have enough knowledge of the players. Kotoko needs to find good and quality players because for now it’s clear the players lack confidence” he said.
