English Premier League side Chelsea have been asked by an instituted tribunal to pay a total of £2.5m as compensation to Exeter City for the transfer of Ethan Ampadu.
Ampadu joined Chelsea last summer at the age of 17 but a compensation fee could not be agreed between Exeter City and London club as what the League Two club demanded was high.
A special tribunal comprising of Exeter City boss, Julian Tagg as well as manager Paul Tisdale, director of football Steve Perryman and finance director Keith Mason along with the club’s legal team met officials of Chelsea on Wednesday on the issue and Chelsea are now obliged to pay £2.5m for the budding talent.
The dethroned Premier League champions will make a down payment of £1.3m whilst the remaining will be based on international and first-team appearances already made
Ampadu who is of Ghanaian heritage is still eligible to feature for Ghana, England as well as Ireland though he has already made two unofficial appearances for the Welsh senior national team.
He has already played seven games for the Chelsea senior team this season whilst he has mainly featured for the Under 21’s.
