Birmingham City boss Harry Redknapp is ready to sign Ghana midfielder Afriyie Acquah from Italian Serie A side Torino.

The Blues are hoping to break their club record transfer fee for midfielder Afriyie Acquah by offering £7million which will eclipse the £6million they paid for Nikola Zigic in 2010.

Redknapp has already compared Acquah to fellow Ghanaian Sulley Muntari whom he brought to Portsmouth after the 2006 World Cup.

“We’re hoping we can get him through the door and we’re looking to build a good team,” he told Birmingham  mail

“He’s a strong midfield player, he can play, he’s got a real engine on him just like Sulley Muntari”

However, Redknapp continued that whether the deal materialises is still in the balance.

“I don’t know what’s happened with it but it’s not happened at the moment,”

“We want to do the deal but I don’t know where they’re at. I’m not involved with that side.

“He’s a player I’d like to sign but at the moment getting it over the line, like most deals, is difficult, but hopefully we’ll get there.”

Acquah has been also linked with a move to Middlesbrough, Stoke City  and Aston Villa.
