Former Ghana captain John Mensah has made an astonishing revelation of how unnamed teammates of the Black Stars undermined him during the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations.
The 34-year-old led the Black Stars to a fourth-place finish at the tournament jointly hosted by Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.
Mensah however reveals some of his teammates went on his blindside to hold meetings with management members to negotiate bonuses while the tournament was ongoing.
“At the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations after holding meetings, some players go behind my back to go and meet officials [to discuss bonuses],” he told Agoo TV.
“I know the players who did that but will not give any further details.
“I had a clean heart and did what I was supposed to do as a captain despite all the difficulties.”
Mensah had a short stint as captain of Ghana mainly due to persistent injuries.
He was substantively replaced by Asamoah Gyan later on in 2012.
