Kwesi Appiah was spot on with his first selection on his return as coach of Ghana in the opening 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Ethiopia on Sunday.

The Black Stars run riot, hitting five past the Walia Ibex with three of the goals coming from two of Appiah’s debutants.

The 56-year-old handed starting roles to as many as FIVE players who were making their international debuts.

All those five excelled on the day with Raphael Dwamena and Ebenezer Ofori in particular having a telling effect on the game.

Dwamena bagged a brace and Ofori scored the best of the lot with a thunderbolt drive having dominated the midfield area with his immense energy and efficient passing.

Richard Ofori had very little to do in post but scored full marks on the few occasions he was called to action while Lumor Agbenyenu and Thomas Agyepong appeared solid at right flank.

John Boye scored to put a gloss over another impressive at the back where he partnered Daniel Amartey with Harrison Afful upping his game at left-back.

Even though Asamoah Gyan – who also scored – and Andre Ayew didn’t have an overly impressive game, their presence on the field of play did enough to keep the Ethiopians at bay.

Aside the selection, the options on the bench for Appiah which included the likes of Jonathan Mensah, Jordan Ayew and Majeed Waris could even do a bigger damage to the vulnerable Ethiopians.
